Jess Doueihi Interview

1. How did you get into the sport?
A good friend of mine suggested I try out a martial arts class at Pollet’s. I hesitated at first as my sisters and I had our routine circuit day at a gym on that particular night, but when we finally decided to try a class one Tuesday night, I was hooked and convinced my sister to join up right away. We have been with Pollet’s ever since.
2. What’s your favourite strike/submission to use in any fight?
Just a mixture of combinations.
3. Who is your biggest inspiration?
My coach/teacher/mentor Hanshi Ian Pollet as he has done so much throughout his career, travelled to so many different countries to train and compete amongst world class professionals and he has experienced a lot. Martial arts is his life and he is very switched on, so I’m lucky to be able to have him coach me and guide me throughout my journey.
4. Which team are you training with in preparation for your BRACE 36 match up?
Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre of course!
5. Do you prefer to stand with your opponents or take them to the ground?
I’m comfortable either way!
6. What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter?
It’s not so much being a fighter, it’s been more about discovering me. I’m taking everything that I am learning throughout my martial arts journey and when the fight comes, I put what I’ve learnt to use, I’m  getting in there and doing something I absolutely love and I’m testing myself every step of the way!
7. Have you studied Janay Harding’s fights and if so what holes do you see that you could capitalise on?
No, I don’t want to take my energy there. My coach tells me what needs to be done throughout my training camp and that’s the focus.
8. What separates you from every other fighter in your division?
Keep an eye on me and you will see.
9. If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?
Ronda Rousey. She is just amazingly gifted and to be able to fight someone of that calibre would be a dream come true!
10. How do you see yourself beating Janay Harding
With the element of surprise!
